On Friday, amidst the Corona crisis, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said that Panchayati Raj institutions have contributed significantly in strengthening the foundation of democracy in the country. The Vice President said that states need to fully empower panchayats. In his address, Naidu tweeted today on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day and said, 'Happy Panchayati Raj Day! Panchayati Raj institutions are the cornerstone of decentralization of governance and any scheme in India. It has contributed significantly in strengthening the foundation of democracy in the country. Apart from this, Naidu also tweeted, 'Though significant progress has been made in the field of local self-government since the implementation of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, much more needs to be done.' Also, Naidu said in another tweet, 'There is an urgent need for the states to fully empower panchayats through three f funds, work and worker. This is important for emerging as a vibrant center of self-reliance in various fields.
