On the occasion of National Sports Day which is dedicated to Major Dhyan Chand's Birth Anniversary is being observed today across the nation. People from all the walks of life remembered the greatest field hockey player of all time on his 113th birth anniversary. PM Modi remembered the great hocky playes’s sports enthusiasiam and said,” Greetings to all sports enthusiasts on National Sports Day. Tributes to the phenomenal hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand Ji on his birth anniversary. I urge people to give priority to sports and fitness related activities, which will contribute towards a healthier India”. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Minister of State (I/C) Youth Affairs & Sports, MoS (I/C) Information & Broadcasting, remembered India's greatest sports icons as saying , “ Today, we commemorate Major Dhyan Chand's Birth Anniversary as National Sports Day. Let us give our tributes to one of India's greatest sports icons by inculcating sports as part of our lifestyle”. The TMC leader and West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee remembered Wizard of Hockey as tributting, “Today is National Sports Day, the birth anniversary of the Wizard of Hockey, Dhyan Chand. Bangla is synonymous with sports. Schools, colleges, clubs, organisations are given financial assistance by our Government for the development of sports infrastructure.” Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to Hockeylegend and urged nation to promote sporting culture, “On National Sports Day, I pay my tributes to the wizard of Hockey, Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary & call upon people to make sports a part of their daily routine. We must encourage & promote sporting culture in country, especially from school level”.
