PepsiCo to invest INR 814 Crore in UP

PepsiCo has announced to set up a green field project for production of potato chips in Mathura at a cost of Rs 814 crore. With the investment from PepsiCo Uttar Pradesh food processing industry boost up to a new level. The UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has allocated a 35-acre plot in Kosi area of the Mathura district.

It is said that plant is aiming in procurement of local potatoes, its raw material there by helping the farmers. The commercial production will start by the midst of 2021 and an approximate estimation 1,500 people will be employed directly and indirectly. The UP’s Industrial Development Minister, Satish Mahana said the commencement is purely on the steps taken by CM Yogi under pro-industry polices and Invest in UP meet. The reforms implemented by the government facilitate ease of doing business and it highly attracts the state for investments. Ahmed El Sheikh, Chairman of PepsiCo India said, “Initially, investment of Rs 500 crore in this project had been planned for which the company has signed a MoU with UP government during the 2018 Investors' Summit. However, it had been revised to Rs 814 crore”.

The project has already been started in July 2019 said Infrastructure and Industrial Developmental Commissioner Alok Tandon. PepsiCo has its carbonated soft drinks and non-carbonated beverages manufacturing units in UP through franchisee in Greater Noida, Kosi, Sathria-Jaunpur, Kanpur Dehat and Hardoi. However, the Potato chips plant is the first PepsiCo’s Greenfield project in UP.
