Petrol and diesel prices go up by 80 paise per litre, Rs 50 hike in LPG rates

Petrol and diesel prices were raised by 80 paise a litre on Tuesday, while domestic cooking gas rates were raised by Rs 50 per cylinder, ending a four-and-a-half-month rate hike due to the election, according to sources.

Petrol will now cost Rs 96.21 per litre in Delhi, up from Rs 95.41 earlier, and diesel will cost Rs 87.47 per litre, up from Rs 86.67 previously. In the national capital, a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder would now cost Rs 949.50.

While LPG rates were last raised on October 6, petrol and diesel prices had been frozen since November 4 as provinces such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab prepared for assembly elections. Despite the fact that the cost of raw materials has been spiralling, prices have been frozen since then. Early in November, international oil prices were at USD 81-82 per barrel, compared to USD 114 currently.

A 5 Kilogram LPG cylinder would now cost Rs 349, according to sources, while a 10 kg composite bottle will cost Rs 669. The price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has increased to Rs 2003.50.
