Planning to deploy 200 electric vehicles and 100 CNG buses in Guwahati by 2022: Assam government

Guwahati: The state government on Wednesday unveiled an Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. The Department of Industry, Commerce and Public Enterprises said the Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 provides a set of incentives for people to switch to EVs. The Assam government plans to phase out fossil fuel based vehicles by 2030. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is planning to deploy 200 electric vehicles and 100 CNG buses in Guwahati by April 1, 2022.

The government has also given 100% exemption on registration fee and road tax and parking fee on electric vehicle. Buyers of two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler EVs will be entitled to a subsidy of ₹20,000, ₹50,000 and ₹1.5 lakh respectively, while entrepreneurs setting up EV charging stations are assured 90% exemption from electricity charges .

Meanwhile, Jio-bp, a fuel and mobility joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and BP, announced a partnership with BlueSmart, India's first and largest all-in-one, to set up a network of commercial large-scale EV charging stations. Will install electric ride-hailing platform. BlueSmart, through its all-electric fleet, is trusted in Delhi NCR. Running the largest fleet of EVs, BlueSmart aims to expand its network to other major cities across India.

Through this partnership, the two companies will collaborate to plan, develop and operate EV charging infrastructure at appropriate locations in the cities where BlueSmart operates.
