PLIGHT OF INDIAN SOLDIER: Rajnath seeks report

VIJAYAWADA: Taking cognizance into the selfie video of a BSF jawan stationed in Jammu and Kashmir about alleged poor and inhuman treatment of soldiers which went viral on social media, Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi to seek a report immediately.

In the video, the jawan has alleged poor and inhuman treatment of soldiers fighting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

The home minister, who was in Vijayawada to lay the foundation stone for NDRF, is said to have watched the video on social media and immediately responded. He went on Twitter and wrote, "I have seen a video regarding a BSF jawan plight. I have asked the HS to immediately a report from BSF and take appropriate action."

The video by constable Tej Bhahadur Yadav went viral on social media and prompted the Border Security Force to initiate an inquiry.

The Border Security Force tweeted from its official handle that an inquiry has been ordered.

"BSF is highly sensitive to the welfare of TPS (troops). Individual aberrations, if any, are enquired into. A senior officer has already rchd (reached) the location," the force tweeted after tagging the video.

In the video, Yadav accused some officers of "illegally selling off" the supplies meant for the troops and said the soldiers have to go to bed hungry at times.

YADAV PULLED UP FOR INDISCIPLINE AT LEAST 4 TIMES: BSF SOURCES

BSF sources say the jawan is posted in 29 Battalion in Mandi Mandir, Poonch. While former ADG of BSF PK Mishra said this looked like an administrative failure, BSF sources said that the quality of food here is as per the manual of the army.

BSF sources say Yadav has been pulled up for indiscipline at least 4 times, with the service record of the soldier being poor.

Other sources said Yadav had sought voluntary retirement in January this year. However, considering the severity of charges, the BSF has instituted a DIG level enquiry.
