'PM Jan Dhan Loot Yojana': Rahul slams BJP govt as fuel prices rise

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, today lashed out at the BJP-led government over rising petrol costs, using a graphic to highlight his point. The comments came as petrol and diesel prices rose for the 12th time in two weeks on Monday. In the last fortnight, petrol prices have climbed by Rs 8.40 per litre.

"Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan LOOT Yojana," the Wayanad MP sneered, tweeting a comparison of fuel prices from 2014 to 2022. While crude oil prices were higher on May 26, 2014, the cost of a full tank of gas was substantially higher today, according to the infographic.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, a Congress spokesman, also mentioned a spike in CNG prices, claiming that under the Modi administration, every morning brought "sadness rather than exhilaration."

From Srinagar to Kochi, the price of petrol is above Rs 100 per litre in all major cities. Petrol and diesel are now priced at Rs 103.81 per litre and Rs 95.07 per litre, respectively, in the national capital, following recent changes. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, a litre of petrol costs Rs 118.83 (up 84 paise) and a litre of diesel costs Rs 103.07 (up 43 paise).

The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi has also been raised by Rs 2.5 per kilogramme by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL). CNG will now cost Rs 64.11 per kg in the national capital, according to a new price that goes into effect Wednesday, April 4.
