NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound anguish and outrage over the appalling Manipur incident on Thursday. He deemed the incident involving women in the Northeastern state as extremely shameful and unforgivable. "My heart is filled with pain and anger today. The incident in Manipur, which has come to light, is an affront to any civilized society," Modi told reporters at the Parliament House Complex, referring to the disturbing video that went viral on social media, showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur. He continued, "This incident is not only an insult to the people of our nation but has also brought shame upon 1.4 billion Indians. The mistreatment of women in Manipur can never be forgiven. I assure the entire country that the culprits will not escape justice." In addition, Prime Minister Modi called upon all Chief Ministers to reinforce the law and order situation in their respective states, especially when it comes to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women. "I urge all the CMs to strengthen the law and order situation in their states, particularly for the protection of mothers and daughters, and to take stern action against the perpetrators," he emphasized. Regardless of the location--whether it is Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, or any other part of the country--Modi stressed that maintaining law and order transcends politics and is of paramount importance. Speaking to the media ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Prime Minister expressed his deep distress and anger, assuring that those responsible for the Manipur incident will not escape justice. The incident, he stated, is a disgrace to civil society, and he assured the nation that the plight of the daughters of Manipur will not be forgotten. Furthermore, he appealed to all Chief Ministers to ensure the maintenance of law and order in their states, particularly with a focus on the safety of women. Emphasizing the presentation of people-friendly bills in the House, he called on all Members of Parliament to cooperate during the discussions.
