Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three- day visit to Gujarat that concludes today. He had reached Jamnagar on March 1. On Sunday, he had offered prayers at the Somnath Temple in Veraval. Today, on the occasion of World Wildlife Day Modi enjoyed the jungle safari in Gir National Park located in Junagarh district of the state. The stills of which have surfaced on social media. He had reached the Singh Sadan, the State Forest Department’s guest house on Sunday night, and left for the Safari early morning. Modi was accompanied by some ministers and higher officials of the Forest Department.
After this, the Prime Minister is all set to chair the meeting of the National Wildlife Board at Shashan Gir, which is the known as the last abode of the Asiatic lion. The meeting will be presided for key conservation strategies which includes presence of the 47 members of the National Wildlife Board with the CDS that has representatives of various states, NGO representatives, wildlife officials, as well as the secretaries of states. Modi will inaugurate a veterinary hospital in Sasan Gir. He will also meet women staff employees at Gir, followed by the meeting.
The World Wildlife Day was first celebrated in 2014, with the purpose of conservation of wildlife and the rich biodiversity of the planet, followed after the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2013. Earlier today, Narendra Modi urged the countrymen to emphasize on the incredible biodiversity of the Earth on World Wildlife Day. Taking to his social media handle on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Today, on World Wildlife Day, let’s reiterate our commitment to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet. Every species plays a vital role – let’s safeguard their future for generations to come. We also take pride in India’s contributions towards preserving and protecting wildlife.”
The Gir National Park is the home to Asiatic Lions in Inida and has worked effectively in their conservation, survival and growth in the past years. Notably, the Central government has allocated Rs.2900 crores for the Project Lion initiative carried out, with Gir National Park as the flagbearer of it. The Asiatic lions are living in an area of about thirty thousand kilometers across 9 districts and 53 talukas of Gujarat. For the safety and wildlife tracking, there is a monitoring center and a hospital built in the National Park. Along with this, there is also a national referral center in construction in New Pipaliya of the Junagarh district.
