Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting on India's security preparedness amid the ongoing Ukraine crisis since Russia launched the Ukraine War. Since then, PM Modi has held several high-level meetings with Union ministers and senior officials. Apart from the Prime Minister, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were present at the meeting. The meeting, which was convened amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, is expected to discuss India's security preparedness and the current global environment. The war between Russia and Ukraine continues for the 18th consecutive day today. Despite global pressure and announcements of stricter sanctions by several countries, Russia continues to intensify its attacks on Ukraine and is targeting residential areas. Russia has stepped up its bombing of several Ukrainian cities and has launched firing on the outskirts of the capital Kyiv, cracking down on Mariupol in the south of the country. Mariupol has been the most affected by Russia's invasion. With the continuous firing, attempts to bring food, water and medicine to the city with a population of 430,000 and evacuate the stranded people have failed. According to the mayor's office, more than 1,500 people were killed in the attack in Mariupol and attempts to bury bodies in mass graves were also being hampered by firing.
