PM Modi meets Thomas Cup-winning team, says 'you have fulfilled the big dream of the country'

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met badminton champions of Thomas Cup and Uber Cup at his residence '7 Lok Kalyan Marg'.  The players shared their experiences with the PM. PM Narendra Modi told the Indian badminton players who won the Thomas Cup, "I congratulate the entire team on behalf of the country. It's no small achievement. PM Modi said, "In any tournament, any decisive match is breath-taking. The players said that "whether the match is the first or the last, we always saw the victory of the country." 

 

PM Modi said, "There was a time when our team Used to be far behind in the list of Thomas title wins. Indians may have never even heard of this title, but today you have made it popular in the country. This Indian team has awakened the feeling that if you work hard, anything can be achieved. It's okay to have pressure, but it's wrong with that. You have made history out of pressure.'' During the meeting, PM Modi spoke to Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, who cheered them up and wished them all the best for a bright future.

 

Kidambi Srikanth said, "Athletes will always be proud to say that we have the support of our Prime Minister. Indian badminton team's chief coach Pullela Gopichand said, "The PM follows the players and the game, and his thoughts connect with the players. Indian doubles coach Mathias Bo said, "I have been a player and I have won medals for the country.'' But my Prime Minister never called me to meet me. Mathias has been an international badminton player from Denmark.
