Later, on October 21, 1951, in Delhi, Dr. Mookerjee established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and assumed the role of its first President. However, during a visit to Kashmir in 1953, he was arrested on May 11 and tragically passed away while in detention on June 23, 1953.
