PM Modi to address Kisan Kalyan Rally in Punjab to mark MSP hike

Muktsar (Punjab) [India], July 11 (NT): Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a Kisan Kalyan public meeting in Punjab's Muktsar district.

This rally of Modi comes in the wake of a recent hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Kharif crops.

Taking to micro-blogging website Twitter, PM Modi informed "Tomorrow I would be visiting Punjab to address a Kisan Kalyan Rally in Malout, Muktsar district. Farmers from Punjab have an invaluable contribution in the growth of India's agriculture sector. I look forward to tomorrow's rally."

On a related note the rally will jointly be held by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Malout. According to BJP source, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal and other important leaders will be present at the rally.

Modi-led-Central Government on July 4 nodded the Union Minister Arun Jaitley’s proposal in the Budget 2018  to hike MSP by 50 per cent for 14 Kharif crops for the year 2018-19.

MSP is termed a price at which the government buys crops from the farmers, to look after agriculture producers from the decrease in farm prices. (NT)
