CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 1,152 houses built under the Light House Project in Chennai on Thursday. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, the project was built at a cost of Rs 116 crore. "For the first time in the country, it employs cutting-edge global technology, materials, and processes in the construction sector on such a huge scale. This project employs the Precast Concrete Construction System, which is popular in the United States and Finland ", according to a press statement. On January 1, 2021, Prime Minister Modi announced the Lighthouse projects, which will leverage modern technology to build housing projects faster while also making them more durable. Since then, he's been checking in on the project on a regular basis, including through drone-based monitoring. The project was completed in a timely manner and will be beneficial to the needy. His visit to Chennai will be his first since the DMK took power in the state last year.
