PM Modi to inaugurate Mahakal corridor of the Ujjain temple on Oct 11

BHOPAL: On October 11, at 6 p.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the newly constructed Mahakal Corridor in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain,  which has been designed on the basis of 'Shiv Leela' (108 murals and 93 statues depicting stories related to Lord Shiva),

In a video address,  Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shiv Raj Singh Chouhan said that  the newly developed area, which is a part of the Ujjain Mahakaleshwar temple has been named "Sree Mahakal Lok." He also urged the people to participate in the prayer in their homes or at nearby temples.

"Witnessing the expansion of the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain would be a remarkable moment for Lord Shiva's worshippers after Kedarnath and Kashi Vishwanath. On October 11, at 6 o'clock, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch "Sri Mahakal Lok." Visitors can catch a peek of Shiva Leela here", the chief minister said.

Notably, the expansion is being carried out under the Mahakal Maharaj Mandir Parisar Vistar Yojna of the Madhya Pradesh government, which entails enlarging, beautifying, and decongesting the Mahakaleshwar temple and its surrounding area. The first phase has been completed, and there are still two more phases to go on.

Under the plan, the 2.82 hectare Mahakaleshwar temple grounds will be expanded to 47 hectares and developed by the Ujjain district administration over two phases. Rudrasagar Lake, which covers 17 hectares, will be a part of this. The project is expected to increase annual footfall in the city from the current 1.50 crore to nearly 3 crore.

A visiting plaza with two gates, or "Dwaars," the Nandi Dwaar and the Pinaki Dwaar, is one of the features of the first phase of the Vistar Yojna. Up to 20,000 pilgrims can congregate in the tourist plaza at once. A circulation plan to cut congestion has also been developed, keeping in mind the entry of visitors into the city and their movement towards the temple. The Mahakal temple, which is surrounded by 108 paintings and 93 statues telling tales about Lord Shiva such Shiv Vivah, Tripurasur Vadh, Shiv Puran, and Shiv Tandav Swaroop, has also been connected to the plaza by a 900-metre pedestrian corridor.

Expansion of the temple's eastern and northern fronts is included in the second phase, which is estimated to cost about Rs 310.22 crore. Various portions of the city of Ujjain, including Maharajwada, Mahal Gate, Hari Phatak Bridge, Ramghat façade, and Begam Bagh Road, are also being developed.
