PM Modi’s Mission to Fight Obesity: THESE are 10 people chosen to fight against obesity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new campaign to tackle obesity and reduce oil consumption in India. On Monday, February 24,  he nominated 10 well-known personalities from different fields to spread awareness about these health concerns.

This move follows his recent Mann Ki Baat radio address, where he highlighted the growing problem of obesity in India. PM Modi urged people to reduce their daily oil intake by 10% and encourage others to do the same.

Sharing his initiative on social media platform X, he wrote, “I am nominating these individuals to help in the fight against obesity and promote awareness about reducing oil consumption. I also request them to nominate 10 more people each, so this movement grows even bigger.”

The 10 people chosen by the Prime Minister names:

Sudha Murty: Rajya Sabha MP and a Philanthropist, author Nandan Nilekani: Infosys co-founder and former UIDAI chairman Anand Mahindra: Chairman of Mahindra Group Omar Abdullah: Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister  Manu Bhaker: Olympic-winning shooter Mirabai Chanu: Olympic-winning weightlifter Mohanlal: Actor and producer R Madhavan: Actor Shreya Ghoshal: Singer Nirahua Hindustani: Actor and BJP MP

During the radio show, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra also supported the campaign, emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Apart from this health initiative, PM Modi also spoke about India’s achievements in space. He praised ISRO for completing its 100th rocket launch and highlighted key missions like Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and Aditya L-1.

He also announced that on National Women’s Day, he would hand over his social media accounts to inspiring women to honor their contributions.

India’s Growing Obesity Crisis

PM Modi pointed out that obesity is becoming a major issue in India. Citing WHO data, he said that in 2022, around 250 crore people worldwide were overweight. He stressed that excess weight leads to many health problems and that reducing oil consumption is not just a personal choice but a responsibility toward family and society.

A study published in The Lancet revealed that nearly 70% of India's urban and rural population is either overweight or obese. With India now ranking third globally (behind only the U.S and China) the need for action is urgent.

Through this campaign, the Prime Minister aims to bring awareness and encourage healthier eating habits across the country.
