PM Modi launches Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Development of country depends on water sources

New Delhi: PM Modi inaugurated the Jal Shakti Abhiyan on the occasion of World Water Day on Monday. PM Modi launched this campaign through video conferencing due to the coronavirus. PM Modi said in the program that at the present time both awareness and efforts towards water power are increasing. 

PM Modi said that with the introduction of 'Catch the Rain' to solve the water problem in India today, a big step has also been taken for the Ken Betwa Link Canal. This agreement is very important to realize the dream that Atal ji had seen in the interest of millions of families of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. PM Modi said that while we are making efforts for fast development, it is not possible without water security and effective water management. He further said that the development of the country depends on our water sources and connectivity.

PM Modi said that all the schemes related to water are being worked on at a fast pace. This includes schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Irrigation Yojana, Har Khet Ko Pani Abhiyan, Per Drop More Crop Campaign, Namami Gange Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, Atal Ground Water Scheme. PM Modi further stated in the program that till one and a half years ago, out of 19 crore rural families, only 3.5 crore households had a tap connection but at the start of the Jal Jeevan Mission, about four crore poor families have a tap connection.
