The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Assam. He reached the north-eastern state yesterday, on 24th February 2025 where he participated in the Jhumoir Binandini 2025 at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati. And today he kicked off the Advantage Assam 2.0 Infrastructure and Investment Summit 2025.
The Jhumoir Binandini (Mega Jhumoir) 2025 is a cultural extravaganza where 9,000 artists and drummers perform the Jhumoir dance. It is a folk dance of the Assam tea tribe and the Adivasi communities of the state, a testament of their inclusivity, united bond and culture. The Mega Jhumoir event reflects upon the 200 years of the tea industry of Assam, also marking two centuries of industrialization in the state.
The Prime Minister took to X sharing the experience at the event, “Every moment of Jhumoir Binandini was pure magic! This was an experience that touched the soul. As we celebrate 200 years of Assam tea, this program beautifully merges history, culture and emotion. The culture of the tea tribes, their spirit and their deep connection to the land- it all came alive today. I compliment the artists who took part in this programme. I bow to the culture and traditions of Assam.”
Prior to this event, the Prime Minister held a grand roadshow in Guwahati, where he had lauded the efforts of the Assam Government towards celebrating the culture and heritage of the state’s tea and tribal communities.
As of today, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0, an initiative that aims to attract global investment fostering industrial expansion and growth in the state. Further strengthening the role of Assam in India’s economic landscape as well as making it an investment hub.
Addressing the event, Narendra Modi said, “Advantage Assam will connect the entire country with the potential of Assam. Eastern India has played a very big role in the history of India’s development. The Eastern India…our northeast will show its potential. I congratulate Assam Government, team of Himanta Biswa Sharma.”
He said further, “Political stability, good governance along with reforms raised world’s hope for India. Assam is turning into a destination for start-up units and will become the manufacturing hub for Northeast soon.” The Prime Minster also highlighted upon India’s global economic strength and also recalled his 2013 visit to the state.
The first edition of the Advantage Assam was held in 2018. Since then the state has witnessed a significant growth with successful industrial projects contributing to the high level participation with global investment in the state. Ahead of the submit today, PM had also visited various exhibitions that showcased Assam’s potential for investment across various sectors. As many as 60 countries are participating in the event, with delegations from Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan among others. Adani group and Reliance group have announced 50,000 crore investment each.
The summit features an inaugural session, seven ministerial discussions and 14 thematic discussions. Union ministers including EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar, Jyotiraditya Scindhia, Ashwini Vaishnav, Nitin Gadkari also addressed the session virtually. Business leaders including N Chandrasekaran, Sajjan Jindal, Prashant Ruia and Anil Agarwal were also present at the event.
