On the occasion, PM Modi will also issue a commemorative coin and postal stamp.

The celebrations will include chief ministers from a number of states as well as a number of notable figures from across the subcontinent and internationally, according to the statement.

As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a programme commemorating Sikh guru Tegh Bahadur's 400th Parkash Purab (birth anniversary) is being held.

In the year 1621, Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru, was born in Amritsar. In 1675, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had him killed in Delhi. The famous Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, located near the Red Fort, was constructed on the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's execution.
