The people across the country today are celebrating Eid-al-Adha. On the occasion, the political leaders greeted the people. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter tweeted. PM Modi wrote "Best wishes on Id-ul-Zuha. May the spirit of harmony, brotherhood, and togetherness be furthered in our society," "Eid is an occasion to remember the spirit of supreme sacrifice by Hazrat Ibrahim. The festival teaches us to be humble, charitable and to work for the greater good of humankind." said the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She added that "I extend my warm wishes and hope that this auspicious occasion will usher peace, harmony, and equity amongst all." The Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parikkar on twitter wrote "Warm greetings to everyone on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha," Id-ul-Zuha is also known as Eid-ul-Adha in Arabic and Bakra-Id or Bakrid in the Indian subcontinent because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat or 'Bakr' on this day. The word 'Id' is derived from the Arabic 'iwd' meaning 'Festival' and Zuha comes from 'Uzhaiyya' which translates to 'Sacrifice'.
