New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu on greeted the countrymen on the eve of Janmashtami and prayed that the festival inspires everyone to follow the path of virtue in mind, word and deed. In a message, the President said that the life and teachings of Lord Krishna teach “goodness and morality”. President Murmu said in her message , "On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, I extend my warm wisehs and best greetings to all the fellow citizens living in India and overseas.Lord Krishna's life and teachings included the message of virtue and well-being. Lord Krishna propagated the concept of "Nishkam Karma" and enlightened the people about the realization of the ultimate truth via the Path of 'Dharma'. I pray that this festival of Janmashtami inspires us to follow the path of virtue in our words, thought, and actions," the message added. Janmashtami is celebrated every year throughout India to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Believers observe the day by keeping a fast and praying at the temples. As per the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna, an avatar of LordVishnu, was born on the 8th day of the month of Bhadra. The day mostly falls in the months of August or September according to the Western calendar. The temples in the city have been decorated with colourful lights. The chants of "Jai Shree Krishna" is echoing across the city.
