President inaugurates Narendra Modi Stadium, world's largest cricket ground

Ahmedabad: The world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat has been renamed as 'Narendra Modi Stadium'. Earlier this stadium was known as Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium (Motera). Today, President Ram Nath Kovind formally inaugurated the stadium, in which it was inaugurated as Narendra Modi Stadium.

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated it here during his stay in Gujarat. During this, Home Minister Amit Shah was also present. The seating capacity of this newly constructed stadium on the banks of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad has now gone up to 1 lakh 10 thousand. This stadium has become the world's largest cricket stadium in terms of spectator capacity, leaving behind Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Earlier, President Kovind reached the stadium on Wednesday. Here the President, along with his wife, performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the newly constructed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. During this period, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State for Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju, Gujarat Deputy CM Nitin Patel and many other dignitaries were present. Today day-night Test match between India and England will be played here.
