Priyanka Gandhi came forward to defend his Brother Rahul Gandhi over his Citizenship; says this…

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Hours after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi to clarify his nationality within a fortnight, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that she has never heard of such "bakwas (nonsense)". Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said "Rahul Gandhi was born here in front of everyone, he has spent his life here. Whatever is happening is a drama,".

Here it is to be noted that the MHA notice came after Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a British national. In a letter dated April 29, the MHA said that Gandhi has mentioned his nationality as British in an annual return filed by a British company named Backops Ltd. The Ministry gave the Congress leader 14 days to file his response over the issue. The letter read "You are requested to intimate the factual position in the matter to this Ministry within a fortnight of the receipt of this communication,".

However it is worth mention here that the BJP had raked up the issue earlier this month, mentioning the document of the British company to allege that Gandhi is a British national. BJP MP Swamy has also quoted the same British company document. To be noted that as per Swamy, Gandhi was one of the directors and secretary of Backops Ltd, the firm registered in the UK since 2003. The address of the firm is 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire.

"It has been further brought out in the complaint that in the company's annual returns filed on October 10, 2005 and October 31, 2006, your (Rahul Gandhi) date of birth has been given as June 19, 1970 and that you had declared your nationality as British," the letter wrote.  The letter further mentioned that the nationality of Gandhi has been mentioned as British in the dissolution application dated February 17, 2009, of the British company.
