Provocative WhatsApp Status Sparks Controversy in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, a young man named Haseeb Ansari has come under scrutiny for allegedly attempting to incite communal tensions through a provocative WhatsApp status. Members of Hindu organizations have lodged complaints with the police against Ansari, demanding strict action.

The incident occurred in the Nawabganj police station area of Bareilly. On Saturday (August 3, 2024), Haseeb Ansari posted a status on WhatsApp, stating, "If Muslims unite, then even after applying the entire force, they will not be stopped. Be thankful that Muslims are divided into sects and these clerics are not letting them unite." He emphasized his message with large letters and urged people to share it widely.

This inflammatory status was highlighted by a user named 'Hardline Hindu Gau Sevak Bareilly Uttar Pradesh' on X (formerly Twitter) with the handle @Surenda83898725. The user tagged Bareilly Police, accusing Ansari of attempting to disturb communal harmony and calling for stringent action against him. The Bareilly Police acknowledged the complaint and directed the Nawabganj station in-charge to investigate and take necessary measures.

The WhatsApp status posted by Ansari featured a background image showing individuals standing in front of a place of worship, with a red flag visible. However, details about the location and timing of this scene remain unclear. VHP worker Himanshu Patel noted that Ansari had studied to become a Maulana and had previously worked in that capacity.

The police investigation is ongoing as they seek to address the concerns raised and maintain communal harmony in the area.
