Ludhiana: A major accident has been reported in Ludhiana in Punjab on Monday. Where the third-floor lantern of a factory that manufactures auto parts collapsed. Five workers have been reported dead and more than 35 injured in the accident so far. Relief and rescue operations are underway. Rescue teams have rescued the laborers buried in the debris and the injured have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of 12 of the injured workers is said to be critical. More workers are still feared trapped in the debris, which is under evacuation. A rescue operation is underway by the police and fire brigade and a search is on for the laborers buried in the debris. Locals say there was a loud blast as soon as the lantern fell and five or six workers working on the site jumped away after the blast, while many workers escaped with their lives. Eyewitnesses say more than 40 workers were working under the third floor of the building. Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry after the accident. He also ordered compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and free treatment to the injured.
