Chandigarh: The date of voting in Punjab may be extended. According to election commission sources, it is being considered. A decision on this can be taken after the commission's meeting on Monday morning. In fact, Punjab is scheduled to go to the polls on February 14 while Guru Ravidas Jayanti is on February 16. Earlier, CM Charanjeet Channi had demanded the Election Commission to postpone the polling for six days. The BJP has written in a letter that a large section of the state may visit Varanasi as February 16 is the auspicious festival of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. In such a situation, if voting is held in the state, they will be deprived of the right to vote. The BJP demands the Punjab Election Commission to extend the February 14 polls in the state by a few days. Punjab BJP State General Secretary Dr Subhash Sharma said that BJP hopes that the Election Commission will look into their demand. BJP being a party taking all categories together, it does not want any category to be deprived of its vital right to vote.
