PV Sindhu wins Swiss Open title

India's top women's badminton player PV Sindhu has lifted her second women's singles title of the current season by defeating Busanan Ongbamrangfan of Thailand in the final of the Swiss Open Super 300 tournament here on Sunday. Playing her second consecutive final in the tournament, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu defeated the fourth-seeded Thailand player 21-16, 21-8 in a match that lasted 49 minutes at St Jacobshala here. In 17 matches against Busanan, it has managed to win Sindhu's 16th win. He has lost to them only once at the 2019 Hong Kong Open. Sindhu had lost to Rio Olympics gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain in last season's final.

The 26-year-old from Hyderabad, however, still has happy memories from this venue. She won a gold medal here at the World Championships in 2019. Sindhu had won the Syed Modi International Super 300 in Lucknow in January this year. The Super 300 tournament is the second-lowest level of the BWF (Badminton Federation of The World Badminton) Tour event. Sindhu started aggressively in this match and had taken a 3-0 lead. Busanan, however, started making a comeback and levelled the score at 7-7.

Busanan was trying to keep Sindhu away from the net but could not finish her shot properly. At the break, Sindhu had a two-point lead. Pv Sindhu got 4 game points from a brilliant shot near the backline and she has not taken long to capitalize on it. In the second game, Busanan failed to beat Sindhu. Sindhu, after taking a 5-0 lead, made it 18-4 and then won the match easily.
