CANBERRA: Qantas, Australia's national carrier, will offer new nonstop flights from Sydney and Melbourne to locations such as New York and London starting in 2025. According to reports, the carrier, which has been working on endurance flying under Project Sunrise for years, has ordered 12 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft to cover the routes. When compared to current one-stop choices, they are estimated to save up to four hours in total travel time. In a statement, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce stated, "It's the final frontier and the final remedy for the tyranny of distance that has always plagued travel to Australia." "For long-haul flight, the cabin is being particularly constructed for optimal comfort in all classes," he stated. The planes will hold 238 passengers in four classes: first, business, premium economy, and economy, with a "wellness zone" in the middle and luxury seating covering more than 40% of the cabin. International travellers can also expect more direct flights to Australia, as Joyce stated that the aircraft will be able to operate non-stop flights from cities such as Paris and Frankfurt. On Monday, the airline presented its third-quarter trading update, which revealed that domestic travel demand is rebounding to pre-Civud-19 levels ahead of schedule. International travel is also on the mend, especially as more Covid-19 limitations are lifted.
