Indian Vedic literature has been full of knowledge. Though over time we Indians lost that vast knowledge to dust. Such is the tale of 'Queen Vishpala' - a Warrior queen from the Rigveda Era. Indian history has lots of special mentions of the female brave warrior. But, what is special about this brave queen 'Vishpala'? This heroic warrior 'Vishpala' had one of her legs made up of iron. Where every 'homo-sapiens' were busy making tools from stones. But, at that time India was far more advanced in terms of science and technology. There existed a technique of putting a 'prosthetic leg' made up of iron. Around 3200 years ago, in 1200 BC, there existed an Indian queen named Vishpala and her vast empire. During a battle, she lost her leg, and with the help of maharishis and Vedic gurus she had an artificial leg placed. Factually, she was the first known human in the world to have a fake 'prosthetic' leg. Vishpala was an orphan girl. She grew up in an Aashram, where she learned martial arts from her gurus. At that time she was aware of who she was, and what influence she would have on history. Her fate was being decided under the surveillance of the great sage Pasyumin. Years passed, and Vishpala, in search of her destiny, started to travel and eventually reached the kingdom of Astikanir. As fate had decided, she was married to king 'Khelraj'. Both 'Khelraj' and 'Vishpala' were great mighty warriors trained in various martial art forms. Everything was going well until the kingdom of Astikanir was attacked by enemies. 'King Khelraj' and his troop prepared to leave for the battlefield. Seeing Khelraj, queen Vishpala also decided to join the battlefield. She fought and destroyed the enemies as if she herself was 'Devi Chamunda'. The war was getting very difficult for the enemy side, they had to try various dark tricks to slow down Vishpala. And then came the darkest move, where a bunch of soldiers attack Vishpala altogether. During this battle, one of her legs got amputated. Though initially, she kept on fighting but later was stopped and taken to medical care. Days passed, and it was getting tough for King Khelraj to win the battle without Vishpala. So, Vishpala had perform 'Ashwamedha Yagya'. She had to penance to twin gods, 'Ashwini Kumar'. As per Hindu mythology, 'Ashwini Kumar' were such a deity whose body was like a human but their head was like a horse. The twin gods were worshiped because they used to fly in his golden chariot to help needy and incapable people. Ashwini Kumars were kind and naive. Pleased with the worship and penance of queen Vishpala, they granted her a boon in form of an iron leg. And later, she took part in the battle again. She killed many enemies single-handedly and won the war. This story of 'Vishpala' is mentioned in the Rigveda (RV 1.112.10, 116.15, 117.11, 118.8 and RV 10.39.8).
