Rahul's big statement on Wasim Jaffer row: 'Cricket marred by hatred'

New Delhi: Former National President of the Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that in the last few years, hatred has been normalized so much that cricket has now come under its grip. He tweeted, "In the last few years, hatred has been normalized so much that cricket, our favorite sport, has also come into its grip. India belongs to all of us. Don't let them disturb our unity.''

Rahul Gandhi made this comment at the time when veteran domestic cricketer Wasim Jaffer has been accused of giving priority to selection on religious grounds while being the coach of the Uttarakhand team. Jaffer resigned on Tuesday for interfering in the election and the partisan attitude of the selectors and the secretary of Uttarakhand Cricket Association. After the allegations, Jaffer said in an online press conference on Wednesday that "the communal aspect that has been brought is very sad" has received support. Anil Kumble is also the Chief of the Cricket Committee of the International Cricket Council.

Apart from Kumble, former Indian players Irfan Pathan and Manoj Tiwari, former Mumbai player Shishir Hattangadi have also supported Jaffer. Rahul Gandhi did not take Jaffer's name in his tweet, but his reference was only to the incident that happened to Jaffer.
