Bengaluru: The ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka is taking on a political colour. In the Udupi district, three more colleges refused to admit Muslim girl students wearing hijabs. Many Muslim students have sat on a dharna in support of their friends. Now, former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi has reacted to the issue. Amid a controversy over the wearing of hijab by some Muslim girl students in Karnataka, he said on Saturday that the future of the country's daughters is being snatched away by bringing the hijab in the way of education. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted on the occasion of Saraswati Puja, "By bringing the hijab in the way of education, we are snatching the future of the daughters of the country. May Mother Saraswati give knowledge to all. She doesn't discriminate." In fact, there has been a controversy over the wearing of hijab by some girl students at a government college in Udupi, Karnataka. In another incident, Muslim girl students wearing hijabs of Kundapur College were stopped by the principal at the main gate of the institute. Amidst the controversy, the Basavaraj Bommai government in Karnataka has asked educational institutions to follow the existing rules on dress till the high court orders in this regard come next week.
