Railways officer, 2 others arrested by CBI for taking Rs 80,000 bribe

LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Saturday that an officer with the Northern Railways' Lucknow division had been arrested for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 80,000.

The CBI said in a statement that Deputy Chief Materials Manager (carriage and waggons) Alok Mishra and two others, Avanish Mishra and Manjit Singh, were arrested on Friday evening. According to the report, a case has been filed against the three apprehended suspects, as well as anonymous government officials and private persons.

According to the FIR, the accused public worker demanded and accepted illicit remuneration from contractors in exchange for awarding contracts and paying bills, among other things. Alok Mishra is accused of ordering a private individual to deliver cash to pay for another person's overdue invoices of Rs 70 lakh.

CBI agents set up a trap for Alok Mishra and caught him collecting the bribe of Rs 80,000. Various searches were carried out in Lucknow in connection with the crime. According to the CBI, cash totaling Rs 32,10,000 has been collected from Alok Mishra's home thus far. "Incriminating documents and digital devices were also found from the deputy CMM Mishra's apartment," the statement stated.

According to the agency, the arrested suspect will be brought before a competent court.
