Bill passed in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly without rectifying mistake, BJP MLAs walkout

Jaipur: Unhappy over not correcting the Advocates Welfare Fund Amendment Bill in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, BJP MLAs walked out and boycotted the House. The BJP boycotted the entire process of passing the bill. Subsequently, the Advocates Welfare Fund Amendment Bill was passed in the House only in the absence of BJP members.

In the Advocate Welfare Fund Amendment Bill, there is a separate reference to the ex-gratia amount received on the accidental death of a lawyer. In the bill, amending section 17 has mentioned the provision to increase the ex-gratia amount from 2.5 lakh to 8 lakh on accidental death. Whereas in the statement of the origin and reasons of the bill, the ex-gratia amount has been increased from 2.5 lakhs to 7 lakhs. During the debate on the bill, many BJP MLAs and Leader of the Opposition had sought to rectify this mistake in the bill and put the bill back in the House.

When Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal stood to answer, even at that time, Kataria interrupted and gave a clear warning that if the mistake in the bill is not corrected, the entire process will be boycotted. Minister Shanti Dhariwal, in his reply, described it as simply typing mistake. Dissatisfied with the minister's reply, the BJP MLA walked out of the House by boycott.
