Superstar Rajinikanth continues to rule the box office with the success of his recently-released flick Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Petta is facing heavy competition at the box office as Ajith's Viswasam also released on the same day. Despite the clash Rajinikanth's film manages to surpass the Rs 200-crore mark worldwide and becomes the fourth Indian film in the last four months to achieve this feat. As the petta crosses 200 crore mark, Superstar becomes the only South Indian star to have four Rs 200-crore grossing films in his credit. Further, film has also managed to rake in over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. With this achievement, Rajinikanth has three Rs 100-crore-grossing films namely Petta, 2.0 and Enthiran. Petta is written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Kalanithi Maran under his production studio Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth with an ensemble cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Simran, Trisha, M. Sasikumar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, J. Mahendran and Guru Somasundaram. It was released on 10 January 2019.
