Rally in support of Nupur Sharma sparks worry in Bowenpally

HYDERABAD: A rally in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma in Hyderabad's Bowenpally district provoked tension,  Sources said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred late Monday night in Hasmathpet, when some people held a candlelight protest to show support for Sharma, who was dismissed by the BJP on June 5 after her obscene remarks sparked uproar in Muslim countries.

Participants holding placards shouted slogans in favour of the leader who has been suspended. Another group objected and responded with counter-slogans after noticing this. Both groups got into a fight, which created a lot of tension.

The police intervened just in time, preventing the situation from spiralling out of control. Following the incident, police increased patrols and sent additional resources to the region in order to avoid any law and order issues.
