If not raised voice against government, we will stop film shootings: Maharashtra Congress

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress state unit president Nana Patole has issued a controversial statement regarding the films of Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. Patole has said that he will not allow the shooting of the films of these two actors. After his statement, Congress national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that his party respects the freedom to speak. Along with this Surjewala also questioned these two actors. He said that the reason for concern is that many celebrities are tweeting uniformly in support of the government.

Along with this, Surjewala assured that Congress workers will not obstruct the films or shoots of Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. Congress believes in freedom of expression. I have spoken to Nana Patole and he has assured me that there will be no such incident (stop shooting or release). On Thursday, the Maharashtra Congress had warned that it will stop shooting or screening films of Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar as they have failed to speak on burning public issues.

Nana Patole had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has increased prices of petrol-diesel-gas wildly, while farmers have been protesting outside Delhi for the last almost three months. Many stars, including Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay, who had raised their voices against the Congress-led UPA government in the past on various issues, but are now completely silent. Patole had warned that if they remained neutral then the party would stop shooting/screening their films.
