Kolkata: Two PT teachers of a well-known school in Alipore, Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, have been found guilty of raping a 4-year-old girl in a nursery class. This incident is from 2017. Mohammed Mofizul and his assistant, Abhishek Roy, were alleged to have raped the girl in the school toilet. On March 29, 2023, both were convicted by the court under Section 376D of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO. After this, on Friday (March 31), he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of Rs. 50,000 has also been imposed. According to media reports, the Alipore court, while awarding the sentence, said, 'Apart from life imprisonment, the court imposes a fine of Rs 50,000, and once this money is deposited, it will be given to the victim immediately.' The court has ordered the government to give Rs 5 lakh to the victim as compensation. The girl's father says that he is relieved and satisfied with the court's decision. Such criminals will think 100 times before touching a child. He said, 'This decision is a victory for me, my wife, and my daughter. I will be able to sleep with satisfaction after a long time. The father told me that he lost his job in this fight, after which he started doing business. But he never gave up and attended each and every hearing. Madhavi Ghosh, the special public prosecutor for POCSO cases, said, 'He produced 21 prosecution witnesses. In which the testimony of the girl child in a closed room is the primary evidence, this incident is from November 2017. The accused were expelled from the school only after the incident came to light. After this, the case went on, and his punishment was fixed for March 31, 2017. It is being reported that after the verdict in this 5-year-old case, both convicts were seen talking to their lawyers. It is presumed that he was asking how he could further appeal to the Calcutta High Court.
