Mumbai: A 58-year-old man was detained by Mumbai Police on Wednesday for allegedly raping a minor girl near the Dongri Police Station. The accused identified as Swami Krishnacharya. A case of the POCSO and section 376 IPC has been registered against the accused watchman. The minor girl had gone for tuition, but because there was no tutor present, the girl waited outside for the teacher, Mumbai police said. Seeing the girl alone, the watchman took her to a remote place and did the crime. The victim girl provided the information to the teacher and he called the police, who arrived on the scene and detained the accused watchman, Police are now looking into this case. The 58-years-old culprit will be produced before the court today. Earlier, in August a man was awarded life imprisonment by a local court in Dhubri for raping an 11-year-old minor. Atul Biswas raped an eleven-year-old minor girl, who happened to be his own relative, in Assam at Ramnathpara under the Tamarhat police station. P Kataki, Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act), Dhubri, passed the order. "Before parting with the judgemen, we should note that despite the fact that not all sexual assaults on female children are registered or made public, there has been an alarming and startling rise in the number of sexual offences against minors. This is because young children are unaware of the act of rape, are powerless to resist, and are thus easy prey for lustful brutes who practise the dishonest, deceptive, and sinister art of seducing female children and young girls. Therefore, such criminals who pose a threat to civilised society should face the harshest penalties possible,"said the Special Judge's directive (POCSO).
