Ravi Shankar Prasad: Increased doctors retirement age to 65 year

New Delhi: Today the Central Government has declared a good news for the doctors. The Union Cabinet today approved the extension of the retirement age of doctors, other than the Central Health Service (CHC), from 62 years to 65 years."The retirement age of doctors working in AYUSH, Railways has been increased from 62 years to 65 years," Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told after the cabinet meeting.

Welcoming the decision, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said that this is a very visionary decision which will strengthen health services in the country. He said that this step will provide the services of experienced doctors and benefit the public. This will increase the doctor and patient ratio too.

The government today said that the concerned Ministries / Departments-Ministry of Ayurveda (AYUSH doctor), Defense Department (civilian physician under the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services), Department of Defense Production (Indian Ordnance Factory, Health Service Medical Officer), Department of Health and Family Welfare Under the Dentist (Dentist), Under the Ministry of Railways, Dentist and Higher Education Department And retirement age of education and medical administrative control of employed physicians in technical institutions raised went to 65 years old.

The Cabinet has also given the appropriate decision-making powers according to the functional expectations of respective age related to the respective Ministries / Departments / Organizations who hold the post of the Administrative. It said that this decision of the government will help in better patient care, proper academic activities in medical colleges, and also to be effective implementation of national health programs to provide health care services.

This will benefit about 1445 doctors of different government departments/ departments of the Central Government. This decision will not have any financial implications as most of the posts are vacant and the current office

bearers will continue to work in their existing capacity for approved posts.
