President Sukarno of Indonesia was the chief guest of India's first Republic Day. Ganatantra (Gana + tantra) means rule by the people for the people. It is very important to remember the freedom fighters on this day, because of them we are all free today. The great leaders and freedom fighters of our country, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and countless patriots, fought the British rule and sacrificed their lives and gave us freedom. These people fought continuously against the British to make India a free country. We cannot forget the contribution of all these freedom fighters. The tricolor is hoisted at Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day. The national anthem is then sung and a 21-gun salute. Important honors like Ashoka Chakra and Kirti Chakra are given on the occasion of Republic Day. After this our army performs its power demonstration and parade march. The parade consists of contingents of the three Services of India - the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force. A variety of tableaux are displayed in the parade which entertains people. Our first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad had said, "We have found the authority of our entire great and vast country in one constitution and union." One who takes responsibility for the welfare of all men and women living in the country. "It is a matter of shame that even after so many years of independence, we are fighting the problems of crime, corruption, and violence today." Now the time has come that we have to come together and throw out these evils from our country as if the freedom fighter leaders had expelled the British from our country. We must make our India country a successful, developed and clean country. We have to understand and solve the problems of poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, global warming, inequality, etc. of our Indian country. Let us all take a pledge that we will maintain the unity and integrity of the country in this way and contribute immensely to the development of the country. With this, I would like to end my speech.
