25 Rohingya Refugees Arrested for Involvement in Nuh Violence in Haryana

Mewat: Several Rohingyas have been arrested in connection with the recent violence that occurred in Nuh district, Haryana, on July 31. The police have registered more than 20 cases and apprehended around 25 Rohingya refugees for their suspected involvement in the clashes.

Preliminary investigations revealed that all of the arrested refugees possessed refugee identity cards issued by the United Nations (UN). Most of the Rohingyas residing in Nuh came from Myanmar's Rakhine state after the violence in 2017 and entered India through various routes.

Authorities have reported that there are approximately two thousand Rohingyas currently living in Nuh, with a significant number of them holding UN-issued refugee cards. However, their recent involvement in the violence has raised suspicions, leading the police to examine their documents and identities.

In response to their alleged involvement in the violent incidents, the authorities demolished 250 slums inhabited by Rohingya refugees in Tavadu, as these structures were located on forest department land. The police and district administration have accused some of these refugees of engaging in criminal activities.

The police are actively searching for other individuals believed to be involved in the violent clashes that took place during the 'Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra,' organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal. The clashes resulted in the burning of vehicles and stone-pelting in the Muslim-majority region of Mewat in Haryana.

As investigations continue, authorities are taking appropriate actions to address the situation and verify the identities and legal status of the arrested refugees.
