Russia goes on to cut gas supply to Europe, Know why?

MOSCOW:  Gazprom, the Russian gas company, has stated that another turbine engine on the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline will be shut down, lowering the volume of gas delivered to Europe dramatically.

"Gazprom decided to stop the second engine at the Portovaya compressor station due to its technical condition," the company said on Telegram. "As Germany's Siemens, the manufacturer of the gas turbine engines, failed to provide the overhaul service on time, Gazprom decided to stop the second engine at the Portovaya compressor station due to its technical condition."

As per reports, the daily output of the Portovaya compressor station would be no more than 67 million cubic metres starting at 1:30 a.m. Moscow Time (2230 GMT Wednesday), down from 100 million.

Gazprom has announced that the volume of gas sent through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline would be reduced from 167 million cubic metres per day to 100 million cubic metres per day, citing the same reason.

The Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which was completed in 2011, connects Vyborg City in northwest Russia with Germany via the Baltic seabed. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline was completed in 2021 to relieve its overburdening, but it has been halted since Russia initiated a special military campaign in Ukraine in February.
