Sachin Tendulkar to Get BCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be honored with the BCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award at their annual event on Saturday, January 31, 2025. The 51-year-old, who played an incredible 664 matches for India, holds the record for the most runs in both Test and ODI cricket. However, despite his long career, he played just one T20 international.

Tendulkar’s 200 Test matches and 463 ODIs remain unmatched. He scored 15,921 runs in Test cricket and a staggering 18,426 runs in ODIs. Last year, this prestigious award was given to former India head coach Ravi Shastri and legendary wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer.

Sachin Tendulkar also made history as the first men’s cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. He achieved this remarkable feat with an unbeaten 200 against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.

A career spanning over two decades

Widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Tendulkar’s international career lasted an incredible 24 years. He remains the only player to have competed at the highest level for more than two decades.

Tendulkar made his debut for India in 1989 as a 16-year-old in a Test match against Pakistan. At his peak, his presence at the crease could bring the entire nation to a standstill. His crowning moment came in 2011 when he finally lifted the ODI World Cup at home.

Only player to feature in six ODI World Cups

Sachin Tendulkar is the only cricketer in history to have played in six ODI World Cups. Opponents often admitted that his wicket was the most prized, as he was the one Indian batter they feared the most.

With this award, Tendulkar will become the 31st recipient of the honor, which was established in 1994 in memory of India’s first Test captain, Col. C. K. Nayudu. Nayudu, who also played a key role as an administrator, had a remarkable first-class career that lasted 47 years, from 1916 to 1963, a world record in itself.
