Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp on Thursday announced that the company has sold 1.8 million vehicles in China in th year 2020. As per the report, its sales rises 11% as compared to the previous year, narrowing the gap with Volkswagen AG and General Motors Co in the world's biggest car market. Toyota has partnerships with FAW and GAC and is also adding new car plants for electric vehicles to meet government requirements in China. The Japanese automaker also sold 223,700 imported premium Lexus vehicles in China with an increase of 11.5% as compared to 2019. The sales of Toyota falls in the first months of 2020 when the Chinese government implemented travel restriction due to coronavirus. Later, the sales recovered in the second half. Toyota did not offer a sales target for China in the statement this year. Its competitor GM recorded a sales of 2.9 million vehicles last year in China which is 6.2% down as compared to the year 2019. Volkswagen sold more than 3 million vehicles in the year 2019, but it didn't announce its sales record of the year 2020 yet.
