San Francisco cancels annual New Year's Eve fireworks show

SAN FRANCISCO: The city of San Francisco has cancelled its annual Novel Year's Eve fireworks show, citing the rapid spread of the new Omicron Covid-19 type due to holiday gatherings and travel. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, San Francisco Mayor London Breed and city officials confirmed Tuesday that this year's New Year's Eve fireworks show will be revoked.

According to estimates, the event would draw tens of thousands to the waterfront, creating a hotbed for viral infections. Public health experts have expressed concern about a staffing deficit for such gatherings.

According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the amount of parties and revellers on New Year's Eve already poses a difficulty for San Francisco's police and fire agencies. According to health officials, 84 percent of eligible San Francisco residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus, with 55 percent receiving a booster dose.

According to health officials, the omicron variant's community spread still poses a substantial threat. In addition, with the recent surge in holiday travel and gatherings, health officials say they're taking the appropriate precautions to prevent the spread of this COVID variant.
