Sanjay Bangar appointed Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach

Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) announced on Tuesday that former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has been named head coach of the franchise for the lucrative 2022 season.

Bangar will take over as captain from New Zealand's Mike Hesson, who will continue to serve as Director of Cricket Operations for the team. Hesson also served as head coach for the second leg of the IPL 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.

Bangar, when media asked about his new role at RCB, said, "It's an honour and a privilege to serve as the head coach of such a fantastic franchise. I've had the pleasure of working with some truly exceptional and talented members of the squad, and I'm excited to take this group to the next level. With the IPL mega auctions and the season that follows, there is a lot of work to be done, but I'm confident that with the continued support of the management and support staff, we can deliver the goods and bring joy to our fans all over the world." " Royal Challengers Bangalore has been committed to its philosophy of supporting and grooming talents from within the team, and appointing Sanjay Bangar is the reflection of that belief," RCB chairman Prathmesh Mishra said of Bangar's appointment.
