WASHINGTON: The U.S. Senate has failed to ban weapons sold to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Senate could not succeed in override U.S. President Donald Trump's veto on three proposals to halt arms sales. The resolution was passed in both Houses of Congress to prevent arms sales on behalf of senators. Trump then used his presidential veto to dismiss the proposals. The Saudi-led military operation in Yemen was a humanitarian crisis after the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Iran-affiliated Houthi rebels. Citing the same, the U.S. Congress had banned the sale of arms pending to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. But according to Trump, stopping arms sales would undermine U.S. international competitiveness and damage relations with allies. U.S. media reported that senators voted 45-40, 45-39 and 46-41 dismiss the veto, which was two-thirds lower than the majority. Tensions between the US and Iran have deepened since Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018. Along with Friends, you can plan a trip to these places on the occasion of Sawan!
