SBI invested Rs. 775 crore in maintaining Jan Dhan accounts

Indian Government owned financing firm State Bank of India have invested the huge amount of money in maintaining Jan Dhan account. Indian Parliament informed today about the investments made to maintain the account was worth Rs 774.86 crores.

The number of Jan Dhan accounts were raised within a month, as per the reports revealed by the minister the zero balance accounts were 5.93crore in the month of November 2016, while it raised to 6.32 crore in the month of December 2016.

Minister of state for finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar gave a statement, "Bank-wise and year-wise information on the cost of operation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan accounts are not maintained. However, the total cost of operation of Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts as reported by State Bank of India as on December 31, 2106, is Rs 774.86 crore."
