If you receive a notification about an unknown SBI account, the first step is to reach out to the bank through its official customer service channels. SBI suggests contacting customer care via the official phone number or website. Additionally, you should file a complaint regarding the matter.
In response to a customer’s query on X, SBI provided advice on how to handle the situation. The bank suggested sharing the mobile number and a screenshot of the suspicious message with them directly through private messaging. They emphasized that they would look into the issue and assist in resolving it.
The bank also encouraged customers to use the official SBI website, https://bank.sbi, or reach out on X (@TheOfficialSBI) for further assistance regarding any concerns related to their bank account or debit/ATM cards.
While these unknown notifications may sometimes occur due to issues in mobile registration, there’s also the possibility that they are fake messages from fraudsters. SBI has frequently warned customers not to share personal information or OTPs over the phone or in response to suspicious messages. They have also advised against clicking on any unverified links in such SMS messages.
In fact, the government’s PIB Fact Check service recently highlighted a fake message circulating in the name of SBI, asking customers to update their PAN numbers to prevent account blocking.
