Bangalore: Amidst the ongoing controversy over the hijab controversy, schools up to Class 10 in Karnataka have started functioning from today. However, schools for classes 10 to 12 are still closed. The case of wearing of hijab by Muslim girl students is currently sub-judice in court. This morning, the girl students up to the 10th standard reached the school. Schools are also open today in Udupi, which has been the centre of the controversy. But the Udupi administration has imposed Section 144 in the vicinity of the Ehtin School for security reasons. The administration is making all-out efforts to make school children feel safe. On Sunday, the police conducted a flag march in Shivamogga, earlier on February 11, the police had also carried out a flag march in Udupi. With the opening of the school on Monday, the administration has imposed Section 144 to prevent any kind of gatherings around the school. Since then, the commissioner has given this order. Now, not more than 5 people can gather within a radius of 200 meters. According to the district administration's order, a gathering of five or more members is not allowed around the periphery of the school. All kinds of gatherings, including protests and rallies, have been banned. Not only that, there is a complete ban on sloganeering, singing and giving speeches. Section 144 will remain in force in these areas till February 19. February 19th is a Saturday. Schools will remain closed as it is Sunday on the 20th.
